Ideas on how to exercise your dogs and trying to beat the heat

It’s getting to be that time of year when we come to the cross roads of needing to walk our dogs because they need the exercise and the temperature being to hot for their feet.  What does a pet parent do?

1.You can take your dog out earlier or later in the day, when the temperature isn’t as hot.

2. Walk them on the grass, remember if you can’t go bare foot think about how they feel, about how hot it is on their paws.

3.You can have your pup wear booties.

4. If your dog loves the water and you have a pool or have access to a pool let him/her go swimming, throw a toy or ball and both of you can enjoy each other and being cool at the same time!

5. Here in Southern California we have dog beaches – go have fun but remember to have some shade, water,  &  sunscreen for those cute pink noses!

6. If you don’t have a pool get a baby pool just make sure it is made of hard plastic so their nails don’t put a hole it.

7. Take along a spray bottle and mist your dog, it will help cool them off.

8.  Take breaks often and make a drink of water part of that.

But most of all watch for signs that your dog has had enough and take them home.

Some of the signs of Canine heat exhaustion are  excessive panting, increased heart or respiratory rate, drooling, & seizures so please be careful.

Do you have any other ideas to help keep your pooch cool on these hot summer days?
