4 Off Leash Dog Parks in and around Pasadena, CA.

Taking a break

Lazy tug of war

We are lucky to live in a city that has a choice of dog parks that we can take our dogs to so they can get their play or run on. Dog parks benefit our dogs in many ways, they help expend their energy, they help socialize them. Parks enable our dogs to run free without the worry of a leash.

Dogs that are exercised and socialized tend to have fewer behavior problems, such as barking, chewing on furniture, anxiety, and trying to break out of the house.

As much as I have tried I don’t think I have run across that perfect park. Because they all have owners that don’t pick up after their dog, a dog may not be socialized properly,  plus they don’t all come with green grass, benches, and shade.

But we should all do our part and follow a few simple rules of common courtesy.

1. Make sure your dog is at least 4 months old.

2.  Have your dog on leash entering and exiting the park – it’s safer for all involved.

3.. Pick up after your dog

4. Take your dog off the leash – its a off leash dog park for a reason

5. Keep an eye on your dog (s) at all times.

6. Use a buckle collar. Pinch or chokes  or other correction collars are not good. Another dogs teeth can get caught in it or your dog could choke. REMEMBER: Your dog is there to have fun!

7. Make sure your dog is spayed or neutered.

8. Have tags and city licenses on your dog at all times.

9. If you have a puppy or small dog use the small dog park. This will make it more enjoyable for your dog. While your small dog may be used to big dogs – not all big dogs are used to small dogs, they may seem them as prey. Let’s face it your small pup doesn’t want to run and hide from a dog that thinks he or she is a live toy.

10. Have your dog on a good “come” recall. This is important you never know what may happen and you need to know that they will come to you when called. Especially when it’s time to leave.

AND THE MOST IMPORTANT RULE OF ALL………HAVE FUN !!!!!
